Jim Czuprynski has almost 30 years of experience in information technology. He has worked at several Fortune 1000 companies during his career and filled many roles - FOCUS database administrator, Powerbuilder applications developer, web designer, business analyst, and project manager - before becoming an Oracle database administrator. He currently holds OCP certification for Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g, and is currently employed at Hitachi Data Systems as an Oracle Technical Evangelist.
Jim wrote this first SQL statement in 1985 against a DBC1012 Teradata database, back when DBAs could only begin to envision databases sized in the terabyte range. Since then his database experience has expanded to include DB2, Informix, Oracle, SQL Server, and Sybase.
Jim resides in Bartlett, Illinois, USA with his wife Ruth, whose career as a project manager and software quality assurance manager for a multinational insurance company makes for interesting marital discussions. He enjoys cross-country skiing, biking, bird watching, and writing about his life experiences in the field of information technology.
