After SQL Server 2008 R2 is launched, support for the development and maintenance of the Intel Itanium processor will cease. However, clients using SQL Server 2008 R2 will continue to receive support till 2018; also, both Microsoft and HP are planning to work together to make sure clients can continue running SQL Server on Integrity servers.
