Database Performance and Emergencies Still Plague DBAs

Database performance issues and emergencies, you would think, should be somewhat on the down-side with the enormous amount of vendor tools and experience in the database community. Unfortunately, in a recent survey, it is still reported that DBAs have their hands full with performance and emergency issues that plague them continually. Consider:

  • 43% of DBAs lose sleep with database performance issues
  • 37% of DBAs have about 5 emergencies every year
  • 9% of the 37% deal with more than 20 every month
  • 54% say they have to spend the night in the office because of emergencies
