IBM leads database integration

By Staff

[From Australian IT]

IBM has unveiled a beta version of the first product from its lengthy Xperanto federated data integration research project, which helps users access, integrate and analyse information across various systems.

The Xperanto project uses XML (Extensible Markup Language), Xquery, text search capabilities and web services technology that will help users search XML documents, flat files, spreadsheets and other information stored in a single database.

The new software offerings, the DB2 Information Integrator and DB2 Information Integrator for Content, allow companies to access and integrate information in diverse locations as if it were stored in one place.

The offerings are based on IBM's DB2 database optimiser system and its federated database technology, which enables joining of data from multiple sources.
