By DatabaseJournal.com Staff

[From .NET Magazine]

For this solution: Pocket PC, SQL Server 2000 (desktop and CE versions), Visual Studio 2003, Windows 2000, XP, or Server 2003

Microsoft describes the Windows CE Edition of its SQL Server 2000 product as a tool that extends the power of SQL Server to Windows CE devices while "providing developers with a consistent programming model for rapid application development." This means if you deploy it, your developers can create device-based applications for SQL Server.

In this article, I'll provide an overview of the relational database engine that powers this edition. I'll also examine a couple of the technologies--remote data access and SQL Server replication--that facilitate the transfer of information between this engine and any other instances of SQL Server within your organization. I'll explain how you can use these features to ensure data remains fresh and in sync with your organization's server-based data stores. By understanding SQL Server 2000 for Windows CE, you'll be able to deliver important information to your users anytime, anywhere.
