Oracle users swing to Linux

Many administrators at Oracle's latest database user conference are considering moving corporate applications with database servers to run on the Linux operating system.

In a survey of about 100 IOUG (International Oracle Users Group) members, about half indicated they were interested in running mission-critical Oracle databases on Linux.

Rich Niemiec, president of the Chicago-based IOUG and chief executive of TUSC, an Oracle support and services company, said the figure was up 15 per cent from a year ago.
