Aqua Data Studio, version 3.0 Released

By Linda Cole

AquaFold, Inc., last Monday announced the release of Aqua Data Studio, version 3.0. Aqua Data Studio, developed with Java, is an SQL editor that allows the user to edit, execute SQL scripts and browse database structures. In addition, the tool provides an integrated GUI interface for building, managing and maintaining enterprise relational databases.

Support for all major database platforms and operating systems is integrated into the software. Database platforms include Oracle 8i/9i, IBM DB2, Informix Dynamic Server, Sybase Adaptive Server, Sybase Anywhere, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Generic JDBC[tm]. Included operating systems are Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX, Solaris, Linux and any other Java[tm] enabled OS.

Developers are able to edit data in tables or resultset using the Table Data Editor. Changes may then be committed or saved to a file.

New automation features speed the writing of SQL statements. Auto-template will automatically complete SQL statements, the Query analyzer provides popup menus for database, table, views and columns selection, and Auto Describe will describe a table or view with a simple highlight and Ctrl-D + hot key.

The Aqua Data Studio comes equipped with several browser/explorer features that display in the familiar tree structure. Multiple database connections are supported; the tree structure allows the user to group databases by platform, version, etc. A Schema Browser provides a means to browse database schema objects, including functions and procedures, with in-depth table/view information. Finally, the Script Explorer permits the user easy access to his scripts.

With the Query Analyzer, you can execute SQL scripts either by individual statement execution or as a multi-statement SQL script. Multi select statement execution can be displayed as either multi-grid results or text. The analyzer supports auto-completion, color-coded syntax (according to database), client statistics, and provides popup menus of tables, views and columns to ease the task of writing queries.

The AquaFold website provides easy to follow installation and usage instructions for each OS. Support is also easy to come by at the website; AquaFold offers a searchable knowledgebase, a mailing list with a web interface (via Yahoo groups), as well as direct support via email.
