IBM Unveils Software for Medium Biz

By DatabaseJournal.com Staff

[From atnewyork.com]

IBM (Quote, Company Info) Wednesday made new overtures to the medium-sized business market, launching new software and financing facilities for that burgeoning segment, which is generally targeted at businesses with 100 to 1,000 employees.

The announcement is the latest in a series the Armonk, N.Y. vendor has made regarding its WebSphere Express line, which aims to lure customers seeking to improve their business processes, such as supply chain operations. More broadly, IBM has seized upon the notion that while small and medium-sized businesses require powerful technologies to operate, they can't possibly be expected to spend the same amount of money as larger enterprises.

Wednesday's products address the growing mid-market customer segment, where Microsoft (Quote, Company Info) is the dominant vendor. IBM promises its new software will be priced as much as 25 percent lower than Microsoft's for key products such as databases and Internet business software.
