Those software guys can have some sharp tongues. Oracle Corp. chief executive officer Larry Ellison likes to call his biggest rival "sap" rather than spelling out its letters, S-A-P, as its German owners prefer.
Bill McDermott, CEO for Newtown Square-based SAP North America, is game: He depicts Oracle as a Frankenstein's monster of mismatched acquired companies, since it swallowed the combination of J.D. Edwards and PeopleSoft, and more recently agreed to acquire a firm called Retek.
"I renamed them JDOrasoftRek - and they are a wreck," McDermott told a group of clients and prospective customers at a forum in Center City last week.
