SQL Server Integration Services an Introduction - Part 3

By DatabaseJournal.com Staff

[From SQL Server Performance]

This article is part 3 of a 4 part series that introduces SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). This article shows how to use the Import and Export Wizard.

The Import and Export Wizard provides the simplest method of copying data between data sources and of constructing basic packages. But it has a major limitation; it does not allow doing the transformation in the way (though with SSIS 2008, you can only choose to include a Data Conversion Transformation if there is a mismatch in data type between source and destination). However you can pull data from the source to the staging server, do the transformation over there and again transfer data from staging to production server, but it’s too much of work and takes lots of resources.

The article continues at http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/biz/SSIS_Introduction_Part3_p1.aspx
