Oracle (NSDQ:ORCL) reported Wednesday that sales of new software licenses were down 17 percent in the company's just-completed first quarter. Virtually all of that decrease came in sales of the company's bread-and-butter database software -- a worrisome development -- and middleware, which had been Oracle's fastest-growing product line.
