Oracle's MySQL promises slammed by critics

Oracle promises made to the European Commission to head off concerns over the acquisition of Sun Microsystems and the MySQL database will not safeguard the future of the open source database.

That is the verdict of Florian Mueller, who once worked for MySQL and is close to Michael "Monty" Widenius, a founder of MySQL, who objects to Oracle’s takeover plans.
