Oracle9i Database on HP Superdome Delivers Best Oracle Performance Result

8.26.02.  Oracle today announced a record breaking Oracle9i Database Release 2 TPC-C benchmark result for Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), running on the HP Superdome Server. This new result significantly outperforms the competition.

Oracle on the HP Superdome server outperformed Microsoft SQL Server 2000's best TPC-C single system result of 165,218.71 tpmC on the Unisys ES7000 by more than 2.5 times and costs 27 percent less per tpmC, and IBM DB2's best TPC-C single system result of 163,775.80 tpmC on the IBM eServer iSeries 400 by 2.6 times and costs 70 percent less per tpmC. Oracle now holds eight out of twelve of the top 10 TPC-C single system results (1). The single system TPC-C benchmark achieved 423,414.41 transactions per minute (tpmC) at $15.64/tpmC and utilized Oracle9i Database Release 2 on a single system HP Superdome server, available now.

Building on a long history of performance world records, this result demonstrates the speed and processing power of Oracle's award-winning database and reinforces that Oracle9i Database is the database of choice by leading systems vendors for achieving unmatched reliability, scalability and performance for real-world applications. The first major update to the award-winning Oracle9i Database, release two includes new high availability, business intelligence and XML features as well as numerous performance enhancements and manageability improvements.

The TPC-C benchmark evaluates a composite performance metric (tpmC) that measures the performance of various decision support systems by the execution of sets of queries against a standard database under controlled condition.

HP Superdome Enterprise Server, 423,414.41 tpmC, $15.64/tpmC, available 8/26/02. Unisys ES7000, 165,218.71 tpmC, $21.33/tpmC, available 3/10/02. IBM eServer iSeries 440, 163,775.80 tpmC, $51.58/tpmC, available 12/15/2000.
