Pervasive.SQL V8 Release Candidate Delivers Increased Database Performance During Early Testing
November 12, 2002
Pervasive Software, a leading provider of data-management solutions powering the success of application developers worldwide, today announced that d.velop AG, a global supplier of solutions for document and workflow management, achieved significant benchmark success while testing the release candidate edition of Pervasive's newest database, Pervasive.SQL(TM) version 8 (V8). With global availability planned for later this quarter, Pervasive.SQL V8 has already demonstrated improved administration capabilities, flexible deployment, and increased performance and scalability.
"With each release of Pervasive.SQL, the product has delivered a deeper impact to our application and larger return on investment to our customers," said Thilo Gukelberger, CTO and co-founder of d.velop, based in Gescher, Germany. "I've never seen enhancements that will help us and impact our customers as much as those featured in V8. And, since our application is utilized mainly by large enterprises, the proven increases in performance and scalability are of top priority."
During extensive testing, d.velop reported speed increases that triple previously charted performances of Pervasive.SQL. Other improvements within Pervasive.SQL V8 that d.velop finds valuable for its customers, include faster file rebuild times, enhanced SQL syntax and a new query optimizer. Benchmark tests by other Pervasive.SQL V8 beta participants have shown similar improvements for their applications.
"Running completely on the SQL interface, d.velop's three-tiered application architecture relies on the relational power of Pervasive's database engine," said Gukelberger. "We selected Pervasive.SQL because it provided a low total cost of ownership database alternative, while maintaining the consistent standard SQL structure of d.velop's leading application."
Pervasive has grown with the application over the last decade and remains the database of choice for many of d.velop's 250 global customers who range in size from six to 1000 users, including names such as H|lsta, Siemens and Iveco.
d.velop values the fact that Pervasive.SQL V8 offers a range of configurations and server platforms for flexible deployment, including Windows, NetWare and Linux. Through development with Prolifics Panther and C/C++ and implementation with Borland's Kylix, d.velop offers customers a native Linux server version of its application. Pervasive.SQL allows users to transfer mission-critical data from one platform to another, offering true cross-platform portability and enabling a smooth migration to Linux.
"Our long-term partnership with d.velop has produced a feedback channel that has been invaluable to the product evolution of Pervasive.SQL," said Gilbert Van Custem, vice president of EMEAA (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia) at Pervasive Software. "Pervasive.SQL V8 enables all of our partners and their customers to experience database embeddability for seamless deployment and powerful performance at a low total cost of ownership."
The general availability of Pervasive.SQL V8 is planned for later this quarter. The release candidate edition is available for immediate download on the company's Web site at www.pervasive.com/V8rc.
