Oracle Sued By MangoSoft Over Software Inventions

Oracle Corp. is accused in a lawsuit of improperly using MangoSoft Inc.'s technology in its new database software.
MangoSoft contends that it invented software for computer networks with a shared memory and structured data storage systems. Oracle's 9i Real Application Clusters software uses that technology without permission, MangoSoft claims in the patent lawsuit filed this past Friday in Concord, New Hampshire.
Oracle's 9i software, introduced a year and a half ago, allows users to hitch together low-cost computers to run a single database. With the clustering feature, people can add more machines to increase performance, and if one machine fails, the others take over, Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison has said.
