Oracle To Give Peek At Next-Gen Database

Oracle Monday plans to demonstrate new enterprise management features of its next-generation database.

At the IOUG Live 2003 conference here, the company will show how the upcoming database will make it "even easier to manage databases and make our Enterprise Manager tool more powerful to manage across whole collections of databases," said Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of database products at Oracle. IOUG Live 2003 is sponsored by the International Oracle Users Group.

News of Oracle's enterprise manageability focus comes just days after Microsoft announced the availability of a 64-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Microsoft said that offering will eliminate doubts about SQL Server's suitability for large data-mining and data-warehousing applications. (see story).

Although some code for Oracle's future database has been in limited hands for some time, IOUG users won't receive beta code at the show, Oracle said.
