Oracle hell-bent on Linux

ORACLE Corp has been relentless in portraying itself as a serious Linux player -- one that "gets it" on Open Source Software (OSS).

The company released its first Linux-based product, the Oracle 8.0.5 database, in September, 1998. A steadily increasing commitment to the platform has resulted in every Oracle product -- database, application, e-business suite, and others -- today being available on Linux.

That has been an important endorsement of the viability of using Linux for enterprise computing.
