SQL Scripts & Samples

Posted Aug 7, 2001

By Staff

This procedure raises an error if the free space on a drive that contains the root-level directory name of MSSQL7 has less than the passed-in threshhold of free space. If you set user databases to grow automatically and without limit, you need to worry about running out of disk space entirely. By scheduling this job to run regularly on your servers, you can be alerted if databases are getting close to running out of space.

The idea behind finding the drive that contains MSSQL7 is the assumption that this is where the data files for the database are stored. This prevents the procedure from complaining about program drives or smaller drives.

The script requires SQL Server 7.x.
