IBM (NYSE: IBM) may hold top-dog status among relational database software providers, but that does not prevent others from carving out significant slices of the enterprise information-management pie.
Among those offering alternatives to Big Blue’s DB2 market frontrunner product is Sybase (NYSE: SY) , whose flagship Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) software has drawn a following on Wall Street in addition to building a client base in the communications and government spaces.
In particular, the enterprise-class ASE database technology is well suited for organizations evaluating high-volume data sets that fluctuate frequently, says Sybase senior marketing manager Tom Traubitz.
