EMC’s cloud storage platform, Atmos 1.3, which is designed for large businesses managing information on a global scale, will have new data protection capabilities early this year with a capability called GeoProtect. GeoProtect divides a storage object into segments before automatically distributing the content across a customer’s infrastructure according to their predetermined policies which allows Atmos to quickly recreate the content should a downtime or disaster occur.

New hardware updates to Atmos 1.3 will be the new Intel Xeon processor 5500 series to double performance and efficiency, as well as two more 1 TB drives to double its storage capacity.
