Zmanda has recently made two announcements concerning its backup solutions; firstly, that its VMware Backup Client for Amanda Enterprise is now available with new enhancements; and secondly, that backup for vSphere cloud operating system is now a built in feature of its Zmanda Backup Appliance. The VMware Backup Client’s new features include block-level differential backups of virtual machines that run quicker and more efficiently, automatic combination of differential backup images with full backup images during recovery, and improved performance since only blocks actually in user are backed up.

“Zmanda’s open source backup solutions deliver comprehensive data protection of VMware environments at a fraction of the cost and complexity of competitive offerings,” said Chander Kant, chief executive officer, Zmanda. “Customers also have the peace of mind knowing that their backup data is stored in open formats and will be accessible regardless of specific technology in use.”
