MySQL Conference & Expo Highlights the Database’s Future

Last month, the O’Reilly MySQL Conference & Expo brought together the MySQL community despite the uncertainty about MySQL’s future. Many of the conference participants recognized that opportunity still exists as the conference highlighted the latest MySQL and related technologies for DBAs, developers, and managers.

Edward Screven, Oracle’s Chief Architect; Slava Akhmechet, RethinkDB; and Kaj Arno, Sun Microsystems GmbH, were among the featured speakers who covered a variety of topics. Several sponsors also made important announcements at the conference such as Oracle announced the release of MySQL Cluster 7.1 and beta of MySQL 5.5; Zmanda now provides cloud backup and disaster recovery for large-scale MySQL installations; and Percona launched ‘Percona Server with XtraDB’.
