New SQL Server Migration Assistant Releases Feature Support for MySQL and Updates for Other Databases

Microsoft’s SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) is now available for MySQL; and the existing Assistants for Oracle, Sybase, and Access have been updated to version 4.2. The SSMA toolkits were designed to make the complex process of manually migrating databases easier, which also reduces the accompanying time, cost, and risks. SSMA for MySQL v1.0 works with MySQL 4.1 and above; and is able to convert/migrate tables, views, stored procedures and functions, triggers, DML statements, and more. Both SSMAs for MySQL and Access also support simple and direct migration to SQL Azure. Some of the new features for SSMA v4.2 for Oracle, Sybase, and Access are:

  • Console support for automated DB assessment/DB migration/SQL syntax conversion for application migration
  • Support for client side and server side data migration for convenience
  • Support for migrating to SQL Server 2008 R2; and from the latest Oracle (11g R2), Sybase (15.5) and Access (2010) releases
