One month from their acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Oracle is still promising to improve upon MySQL. And Oracle does have a successful track record with acquiring open-source databases. Even so, PostgreSQL is gaining popularity as more migrations, just over 3000 more than before the Sun acquisition, and inquiries by potential customers. The European Commission helped bolstered this by saying PostgreSQL was robust enough to be an open-source alternative to the MySQL database.
