MySQL, maker of the popular open-source MySQL database, has put version 4 into general distribution and announced that the product is optimized for use on servers running Intel's Itanium 2 processor.
Version 4, which has been in development since October 2001, has now been debugged and is ready to deploy in any environment, according to the company. This new edition, geared toward enterprise-style, heavy-load, and mission-critical chores, features a query cache that boosts performance, includes full-text indexing, and has tools to simplify migration from databases.
