Quest Software announces Toad for MySQL preview release

Quest is
happy to announce its next iteration of Toad. Toad, which has primarily
supported Oracle Databases in the past, now embraces MySQL with a new tool, Toad® for MySQL
preview release. Quest Software
announced this release of a free version of its database development tool at
the MySQL Users Conference & Expo in Mid April. The
Quest Toad® for MySQL preview release improves the productivity of developers
and administrators by providing an easy-to-use development environment.
Accompanying this release was the announcement of two portal communities, Quest Pipelines and Toad for MySQL.

The Toad for
MySQL preview release, a natural offshoot of Quest’s previous success with Toad
for Oracle, enables MySQL developers and administrators to create and execute
queries, automate database object management, and develop SQL code via a GUI
interface. In addition, it provides utilities to compare, extract and search
for objects, manage projects, import/export data, and view MySQL database
statistics.

Key Features
include:

  • SQL
    Editor

  • Data
    Grids

  • Schema
    Browser

  • Extract,
    Compare and Search Database

  • Import/Export

Bryan Huddleston, Product Marketing Manager for Development
Solutions informed Database Journal that Quest is trying to take TOAD from a
product for Oracle development to a brand for database development–the first
iteration for that is TOAD for MySQL. The plan is to move apace with MySQL,
allowing Toad to mature along with MySQL. Following along those lines, Quest
intends to build a community to help them prioritize features and enhancements,
anticipating that users will make Toad the tool they use to interact with the
MySQL Database.

Two communities are available. Quest Pipelines, boasting
over 12, 000 members is available to those pursuing database
development and administration information or guidance from experts on Oracle,
DB2, SQL Server or MySQL databases. The Toad for MySQL product community is
where users of Toad for MySQL can interact with Quest Software product
developers, giving feedback and requesting enhancements and features.

The free Toad for MySQL preview release is available for
download at the Quest website.
