IBM's autonomic database poised to impact SA skills shortage

The launch of the latest version of IBM's DB2 Universal Database, code-named Stinger, is set to have a major positive impact on the shortage of database administration skills in South Africa. DB2 is the industry's first autonomic database software solution, enabling it to automatically self-manage and self-tune itself without human intervention.

Simon Jeggo, manager of DB2 Information Management Software, IBM Software Group South Africa, says DB2 slashes the time spent on administrative tasks by up to 65% while allowing organisations to complete complex jobs up to seven times faster than before.
