Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver -- Version 1

February 2, 2006

Version 1.0 of Microsoft's Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver is available as a download to all SQL Server users, at no additional charge. The driver, which supports both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 provides database connectivity through the standard JDBC application program interfaces (APIs) available in J2EE (Java2 Enterprise Edition). This type 4 JDBC driver provides access through any Java-enabled applet, application or application server. The new ISV friendly licensing structure allows registered ISVs to freely embed and re-distribute the driver as needed.

Optimized for SQL Server 2005, key areas of enhancement include support for new SQL Server 2005 data types, improved performance and improved transaction support.

The Version 1 driver runs on JDK 1.4 or later, is JDBC 3.0 compliant and installs on RH Linux, Solaris, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP. SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 is required. It has been tested against all major application servers including BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, JBoss, and Sun.

Support for Version 1.0 is provided by the community newsgroup, (microsoft.public.sqlserver.jdbcdriver) and the MSDN Feedback Center.
