IBM Announces Reduced Pricing for New DB2 Database

[From News.com]

IBM announced Thursday that the price of its new version of DB2 would be $7,500 per processor, nearly half the current cost of $14,000 per processor. The new entry-level DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition will be marketed to mid-size companies (companies with fewer than 1,000 employees), serving the same role as the current standard edition of DB2. The new software is expected to be available November 21.

IBM also announced that it has merged two high-end database products — DB2 Enterprise Edition and DB2 Extended Enterprise Edition — and simplified its pricing structure for the new, combined product.
