MySQL lives on

The whole world was watching as Oracle laid plans for Sun products. On the plate and to everyone’s concern was the future of MySQL. But during the webcast Oracle executives said the company’s acquisition of Sun’s many top-notch technologies will allow the combined company to offer “complete, open, integrated systems.” This is what many analysts have been saying all along but it sure does feel good to hear it.

Interesting promises included:

  • Oracle will aggressively push its newly acquired MySQL open-source database, rather than kill it.
  • Oracle plans to keep MySQL’s sales team independent while improving MySQL’s code, support and compatibility with other Oracle apps.
