Did you ever wonder how to find the difference between two dates in the form of X days, Y hours, and Z minutes? Since SQL Server does not provide any built-in functions for this, we’ve designed the script below to create the user-defined function named DiffBetweenDates (only supported on SQL Server 2000).

This function takes two parameters i.e. StartDate and EndDate.

See the following exmple on how to use this function.

select dbo.DiffBetweenDates(‘5/10/01 9:45:00 ‘, ‘5/12/01 14:00:00’) 
output
2Days, 4Hours, 15Minutes 
(1 row(s) affected)
