Netezza and NEC partner up in building database computers

By DatabaseJournal.com Staff

Netezza, a small company based in Massachusetts, and NEC from Japan are partnering together to build database computers—directly competing with Oracle’s new-found hardware / db software combo. NEC will build the database computers using NEC blade servers and the Netezza Software; allowing companies to store and analyze corporate data.

Netezza hopes to earn greater profits saying that licensing software is more profitable than just building computers; also likely because of the more numerous NEC salespeople who will be marketing the computer. Netezza hopes to make similar partnerships with other servers as well.
