MySQL Manager for Windows Version 2.4 Released

By Linda Cole

Version 2.4 of MySQL Manager for Windows provides several new features as well as addressing several bugs.

For those who are unfamiliar with it, MySQL Manager for Windows is a MySQL server admin and object management tool offering a GUI interface for editing and creating MySQL database objects.

The software is available in both a professional and lite version.

Both versions include features that facilitate creating and dropping of databases and tables, support of all MySQL table types and field types, viewing and editing in tables and creating and dropping indices and functions. In addition, both versions support multiple database connections.

To work with databases in MySQL Manager, you must register the database. Once registered, the user has the ability to work with required databases only and to group registered databases by host,

New features

  • The new version has an internal SSH client implemented allowing the user to connect to a remote server using local port forwarding through the SSH tunnel.
  • Also added was the option of editing/dropping foreign keys using popup menus in either the Table Editor or the Visual Database Designer.
  • Eleven languages are now supported: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Chinese and Hungarian.
  • Users may now specify a default directory for each database, for reports generated by HTML Report.
  • Multple bug fixes including:
    • bug with editing items of the To-Do List.
    • bug with BLOB fields truncating during the import data process. (Prof. edition only)
    • bug with extracting float values with the Extract Metadata Wizard if system defined decimal separator is different from '.'.
    • bug with executing (SELECT ...) UNION (SELECT ...) statements in the SQL Editor.

System Requirements:

  • Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000/xp
  • Pentium 166
  • 32 MB RAM

A fully functional trial version is available for download from EMS HiTech's website.
