Alpha code for Ingres’ VectorWise released

With a beta release of VectorWise due out sometime Q12010, Ingres has released alpha code for VectorWise and is claiming 10 to 15 speedier than the competition. The claim to this heightened level of performance is VectorWise’s ability for SQL to access the compute power on multi-core chips as large blocks of data are served. For the future, VectorWise will be optimized to run on up to 256 logical processors and an unlimited number of VMs.

And, from what Bill Maimone, Ingres senior vice president of worldwide engineering told The Register, VectorWise is definitely being architected for large systems as it is “for machines with hundreds of gigabytes or terabytes of data where the user wants to do complex queries and that involve lots of computation.”
